SERMA Technologies has been involved in the development of durable metallized fabrics.

Since September 2019, SERMA Technologies has been involved in the development of durable metallized fabrics.

The metallization of fabrics is a process that enables various properties to be obtained, such as thermal comfort, protection against UV or electromagnetism, shine, antibacterial properties, biocompatibility, conductivity, anticorrosion and many other properties…

A large number of these fabrics are currently available on the market. However, most of them are not strong enough for everyday use. As they are washed, rubbed and come into contact with sweat, the quality of metallized fabrics deteriorates.
The MIROIR project aims to develop a new generation of metallized fabrics with long-lasting properties that can withstand all conditions of use and care. Aimed in particular at the luxury goods, technical fabrics and personal protective equipment sectors, the work covers the entire value chain, from the design and choice of materials to the development of protective coatings.

A total of 5 companies and 2 laboratories are working on this project to develop a new process for the sustainable metallization of fabrics for applications in the luxury and technical textiles sectors.
SERMA Technologies’ Science et Surface materials surface analysis laboratory carries out SEM-EDS, FTIR, XPS, ToF-SIMS and wettability analyses to verify the mechanical and chemical resistance of metallized coatings on fabrics resistant to conditions of use and maintenance. These analyses were used to optimize the coating process.

The project is due to end in February 2024, and will enable SERMA Technologies to build long-term relationships with industrial and academic partners in its field of expertise.
